| Furlough day |
[Sep. 22nd, 2009|05:42 pm] |
I don't have class on Tuesdays, so I entirely forgot about furlough day even though I was just thinking about it the other day. I was near campus to meet with my peer editor for my thesis when I saw a bunch of protesters parading through the street.
Wow, it's rare to see so many people all at once in SJ! I've gotten used to having barely any people on the streets. People were carrying signs like, "Where's the freshmen?" "No students, no future!"
There were four police on horses at the end of crowd. Horses! They (the police, not the horses) were wearing special hats. I don't think I've ever seen police on horses. They do make quite a sight. |

| Japan! |
[Aug. 6th, 2009|01:45 am] |
Off to Japan tomorrow. :) I'm not done packing yet or finishing everything up. Summer is passing by way too quickly. My professor hasn't responded yet, so I don't know what my class codes are. I'll be checking my email frequently in Japan. Ah, I better log in to the substitute system and tell them I'll be away.
I'm excited, but I'm also already thinking that it's right back to classes after Japan! |

Done with my first semester of graduate school! The classes were way different from my undergrad courses. Overall, I liked them. Everyone's really approachable.
( some pics of a pretty peacock )
I'm working on my cosplay like crazy today. I finished with the sleeves, so what's left is the collar and the extra stuff (like the belt...). I hope I'll get it done by tomorrow. Must go out and buy more cloth and pick up my badge for Fanime as well...argh, and here I thought I started on my cosplay early! And yet I'm ending up doing it all last minute again. My back hurts from bending over the sewing machine. Using the sewing machine on the ground is not a good idea. I need a table. -___-;
One of our relatives is coming over Sunday/Monday, so we're cleaning the house like crazy too. Cleaning this house is just impossible. |

| race to the finish! |
[May. 12th, 2008|03:33 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | anxious | ] | ...my shoulders are sore from playing Mario Kart Wii. Just because I held the wheel in front of me in the same position for an hour. T___T; I fell asleep last night thinking of race tracks. I tried out the online play and now I already have a bad score. ^^; Darn people who use Gamecube controllers.
It doesn't help that I want to play the game when I should be doing my essays. I made good progress on my math project and finished doing the powerpoint for my Tuesday presentation though. I was feeling slightly less pressured until I opened the super long email from one of my professors about our assignment that's due on Tuesday by noon. I thought it was due by midnight. T___T; I've left my harder assignments until last. I'm behind my own schedule...I wanted to finish one of my essays so I could hand it in Monday night, but at this rate, I'll have to email it when I finish.
Oh yeah, I also tried out contacts. I'll be wearing trial contacts this week. *____* Haha, I'm doing this for the sake of looking good in pictures for Fanime. XD; I don't want to wander around blind. I'm thinking of getting purple and light brown/red contacts. I'm glad that my eyesight hasn't gotten worse since last last year when I had my eye exam. Getting those contacts in was a paaaaain. I don't know how people do it.
I celebrated an early birthday along with Mother's Day this weekend (I used to hate it when they were celebrated together) but for the sake of tiiiime, it was a good thing. I had a lovely cake from Susan and Tony and very pretty yarn! which made me waste an hour of my life looking at Japanese knitting sites. Oh, the prettiness... This site talks a lot about Japanese knitting. It's too bad I only know how to knit and purl. I need to learn how to read patterns!!
These are absolutely adorable. Too bad I don't crochet. I saved the simple beanie patterns. Those I can do.

Oh gosh, I almost fell for that. Was checking my gmail and saw THIS and went, "What the heck??" They make the most absurd ideas sound plausible.
Anyway, have some pretty birds.
( peacocks! )
All I did over break was finish Apollo Justice, read Reborn, met up with people on Wed, and started on my cosplay. Hah, I didn't even get around to catching up on schoolwork. >_>
Anyway...

| | cold | ] | The water heater stopped working. .____. It sucks not having hot water in such cold weather. I wonder when we can get it fixed...it'll take a long time since we might have to replace the entire thing. ):
There's going to be a bike race passing through San Jose tomorrow! I saw a sign today on the way to class that 7th street's going to blocked tomorrow for the race. I went and looked the race up.
http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/
Seems like their endpoint will be right in front of San Jose State! Tomorrow's Stage 3, which is the fourth day of the race. They're sure covering a lot of California. I wonder if spectators can just...go and watch? They've been cycling in the rain. Very hardcore. It's an 8 day, 650 mile race. Wow.
Their route for tomorrow: http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/Route/stages/stage3.html
This makes me remember Overdrive. XD |

My mom was very proud of her dish this time. XD

Total Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday, the 20th! Too bad I'll be stuck in my evening classes then. ;___; It starts around 6 pm and ends around 9 pm. Haha, one day later and it'd have coincided with the Lantern Festival. I can imagine how well that'd have gone back in the days. The moon's getting eaten! Bad luck to the max!
Moving on, Video Games Live at San Francisco on Friday the 22nd! At least I'll be free to go to this since I have no Friday class. Am very looking forward to it. ♥ |

| | sleepy | ] | Happy Chinese New Years everyone. >D It's the year of the Rat! I certainly have a rat in my backyard that's been stealing our leftover apples. I even videotaped to see what exactly was stealing the apples. Unfortunately, I have late evening classes Wed and Thurs, so I'll be getting home late. DX No Chinese New Years dinner for me on Chinese New Years. ):

The description kind of fits. XD Plenty of time to make things happen...later in the day!

| fish |
[Jan. 6th, 2008|10:55 pm] |
Brought the five fish we have left inside since who knows when they're going to get attacked again. See those white marks on the black fish? Those are battle scars. Only 2 koi left and 3 goldfish. Had these fish for a year and a half or so. They GREW. Can't really tell from the pic though.
The black one looks like a submarine. |D

| What a way to start off the new year... |
[Jan. 1st, 2008|04:40 pm] |
Woke up today and heard from my parents that all of our fish got beheaded last night by some creature that came by. ;_____; I looked outside and one headless fish was on the porch. Another was by the pond. There's a lot of...fish scales all over too, and there was fish fat and a fish tail floating in the water.
We always keep the pond covered now because of the huge birds, but there are some gaps in the net that my dad thought was okay since we never thought anything would jump into the pond. It if had just been outside trying to paw for fish, the fish would have lots of hiding room. But I guess whatever this creature was, it wasn't afraid of water. It must've jumped right into the water and swatted the fish out of the pond. My dad picked up a few strands of the animal's fur. It's light brown.
I thought all the fish got killed, but there were five survivors, though they've lost some of their scales. I hope they're not too hurt. They're scared to death though and won't come out to eat. |

| Thanksgiving this week~ |
[Nov. 20th, 2007|06:46 pm] |

| | amused | ] | Which means Black Friday, and shopping like crazy. It's not just the lines going into the store. Lining up to pay for stuff is going to be a pain too. I kind of want to go, but kind of not. I guess it all depends on what's in the ads.
Enchanted is coming out tomorrow. I want to see it. D:
I'm all done registering for classes and paying. My financial aid is a mess, so I'm not going to be covered. I don't understand how Cal Grant T works, but I can survive without it since I'll be living at home.
My Japanese Language Proficiency Test is next month, on the 2nd. Oh dear. I haven't even started studying for it yet. I've been playing around with the Japanese Wii that Susan bought me (the slideshow function is awesome!) and I've been trying to beat the tons of video games I've bought and accumulated. Even with all the free time in the world, I'm still not getting things done. ^^ But uh, back to the JLPT, well, at least I don't think my Japanese skills have gone down. For one, I recognize kanji a lot better. Singing Japanese karaoke is much easier now (even though I get stumped by the tune, but that's a whole different matter). Karaoke last Friday was much fun. ♥
Still, I should get studying...soon. Perhaps after Friday after all the crazy shopping. |

| where have all the trick-or-treaters gone? |
[Nov. 2nd, 2007|12:43 am] |
I stopped by SF afterward seeing Susan off at the airport yesterday (to Japan!) and bought me some new manga. But...I ended up buying repeats of La Corda d'Oro volume 2 and 8. *headdesks* I really thought I hadn't bought them before since I was just going through my manga the day before and recording them. But when I came home and started cleaning the stuff around my table, I found those two volumes buried in some plastic bags. >_>
I found some cool Japanese site that lets you display your manga/books/video games. I wasted a lot of time adding my titles. ^^ Too bad they only have Japanese titles and some English ones. I listed all of the manga I have in Japanese and English (which is a really tiny number compared to what I have in Chinese!) and also my Japanese video games.
Go take a look! Lucathia's manga/books (there are 2 pages) Lucathia's video games
We only had 19 trick-or-treaters yesterday. A saaaad number. Last year we had more than 50. I really think the earthquake spooked everyone at. AT LEAST the earthquake wasn't on the day of Halloween. I'd imagine that even more panic would be about if that had happened.
( cut for a weird pumpkin 8D )
Happy belated Halloween everyone! And dang, it's November already. >_> |

| | shocked | ] | Shoot, that earthquake was scary. 0_0; Is everyone all right? The cell phone lines all seem to be taken...calls aren't going through at all.
I heard stuff crash upstairs. The water in the fish tank was swishing left and right (the poor fish...). I had no where to hide at all. All the tables have stuff underneath them.
Duck and cover? Forgot all about that.
Ah, now it's on the news. 5.6 earthquake. We were in the center-ish. ._____. Good thing it ended pretty quickly and wasn't too big. |

Now I'm around lvl 33. -_-; |

He's staring at you
Got there pretty late because of TRAFFIC. (Was stuck in it for over two hours!) Parking was hard to find too. I did get to see some huge pumpkins. 2nd place was 1,384 pounds! The first place pumpkin was quarantined put under a tent where you had to line up to take photos with it like lining up for Disneyland attractions. $12 per photo. ^^ Poor 1st place pumpkin...all stashed away while the 2nd to 5th place pumpkin had nice, fresh air...
I bought two nice looking pumpkins for a dollar each. I would've bought more, but I couldn't carry that many. Hehehe, what to carve...
Oh, and that photo up there is a pumpkin this guy carved. He was carving another one at that time too! It looks sooo UGLY but so cool. 8D It was huge too. |

My quilt class finished today. I also finished my first quilt! It's a very simple four patch, probably the most basic quilt out there.

Oh, and events I want to go to but probably will end up not going:
October 11, 2007 - October 14, 2007 Pacific International Quilt Festival XVI (Santa Clara Convention Center)
October 13 & 14, 2007 • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 37th Annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival |

The cloth store was selling these huge key things. I think they're wall hangings (but why would you want to hang a humongous metal key on your wall?). But I guess it DOES look cool.
As some of you may know, I'm taking a quilting class. I'm almost done with my first quilt! :DDD It's a simple four patch, but I'm proud of it! :D I also learned that there's such things as the walking foot and the darning foot. I wish I knew about them earlier. They make sewing thick stuff (the walking foot) and embroidery (the darning foot which is used for freehand quilting) sooo much easier. My sewing machine is so old though, I don't think there's a way to lower the feeddogs.
I found someone's cellphone the other day in the parking lot at the cloth store I was at. I seem to be good at finding other people's lost cellphones. Last time, I found one in a bathroom stall in Las Vegas! |
